Last year the IUPUI Black Student Union held the first scholarship pageant in IUPUI history. BSU sets the bar even higher this year, awarding Best Male Escort, second and third runners up, Miss Congeniality, people's choice award, and Miss Red & Black 2008.

The purpose of the Miss Red & Black Scholarship Pageant is to allow intelligent, community-conscious and culturally aware young men and women of IUPUI the opportunity to receive one of four scholarships to further their education here at IUPUI.

The Miss Red & Black Scholarship Pageant will be awarding more than $3,000 worth of scholarships and prizes. The lucky lady who wins the title of Miss Red & Black 2008 will be afforded the opportunity to compete in the next Miss Central Indiana Pageant, with BSU covering the costs.

This event will take place April 28 at the historic Madame Walker Theatre. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the program starts promptly at 6 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now at the Black Student Union Office in University College Lower Level room 002. Tickets are $5 in advance for students (with student ID) and $7 for general admission. One hundred percent of the proceeds and ticket sales go back into the Miss Red & Black Scholarship Fund, to create scholarship for next year's pageant contestants.
