Columbus welcomes Sen. Barack Obama Friday

Hundreds of students, young voters and residents gathered in the Columbus East High School gymnasium to be a part of Senator Barack Obama's "Road to Change" town hall meeting April 11. The audience greeted the Democratic presidential candidate with a standing ovation set to the sound of whistles, the stomping of feet on bleachers, shouting and clapping. (4) comments

School dedicates Campus Center

The highly anticipated official grand opening of the IUPUI Campus Center took place April 9. Although the Campus Center has been open for student and administrative use for most of the spring semester, the grand opening marked the availability of all the center's services and features. Red ribbon stretched across three decorative barriers in front of the southeast entrance of the Campus Center April 9. A small crowd of students, faculty members and others gathered to hear a handful of speakers impart words in celebration of the newest building on campus. (0) comments

The rate of auto larcenies is on the rise around the Indianapolis area and IUPUI's campus is no exception. Between Jan. 1, and the beginning of March, police reported 47 vehicle break-ins around campus. In the same time frame last year, there were 10. "People are breaking out windows and they're taking anything of value," Indiana University Police Officer Bill Abston said. (0) comments

The grand opening of the Campus Center April 9 was accompanied by the sounds of the Mobile Millennium Carillon. The Mobile Millennium Carillon is essentially an expansive bell tower that has been modified to fit on a semitrailer. The carillon that played at the campus center is controlled through a keyboard that is similar to a classical organ. (0) comments
