If you have any interest in computers at all, I'm sure you've heard the debate. Macs are safer. PCs have more software. Macs have more for the creative person. PCs are more powerful. A person can debate for hours on which system is better.

There are many things that both a Mac and PC offer, so the only issue is finding which system works better for you.

According to an article in the "Roanoke Times," PCs running a version of the Windows operating system take up 95 percent or more of the market, so there is obviously more software available for the machines. However, Mac lovers fight back that their computers do everything they need, and they are built better.

The software available for a PC is more varied and usually several different programs are available for whatever you want to do. However, nowadays software is being made for both Mac and PC, and there are also universal programs, which can be put on both systems.

A lot of Mac software is geared more for the creative artist, but PC programs are also available for a Mac. With programs such as GarageBand, iMovie and iDVD, iPhoto, iTunes, iWeb, and iWork it is really easy for Mac users to create any project they can think of, such as movies, music, photos, websites, presentations and publications.

"Apple made the wise decision to provide the best environment for creative folks," Robert Turcotte, senior systems consultant for Entre Computer Center said in a "Roanoke Times" article. "Rumor has is that artists can be temperamental. My conclusion: that temperamental folks need a computer that isn't."

Mac users can also enjoy Microsoft Office software for Mac, e-mail programs, basic games, Internet browsers and chat programs.

Businesspeople might argue that a PC is better for them because there is more business software available for a PC.

"It's easy to find peripherals, software and the like to do whatever you want, when you want to do it," Turcotte said. "Because Mac software for business users is limited, why keep two computers when owning one will do?"
