All my friends tell me that post-rock is "so over." They don't like Explosions In the Sky anymore, and Mogwai and Godspeed are played out. So of course they go off and start bands that sound more like Pelican, because they are in no way similar, at all - totally different (this is, of course, sarcasm).

Do Make Say Think is a musical collective from Ontario, and their latest release, "You, You're a History In Rust," takes another crack at instrumental post rock, and they pretty much nail it. They have produced a very solid, cohesive and dynamic album.

My same friends that feel post rock is played out formed for a brief time a music collective/label/recording studio/ practice space in Fort Wayne.

"History In Rust" reminds me of those times, not because we were creating music of this caliber, but because we were having fun with it. When we were all on, our collective felt powerful, a sum greater than its parts.

"History In Rust" is powerful, far more dynamic, more deliberate and at times more epic than one would think would come from the barn and cottage in backwoods Ontario where this album was recorded.

The album's opening track, "Bound To Be That Way," has an intimate feel, like sitting on a pillow against the wall, eyes closed and stoned; building and swelling, rising, cresting, rolling into the distance only to swell again.

My personal favorite track is "The Universe!," which is probably the most straight-forward song on the album and the closest thing to a real riff-driven rocker. However, if you're looking for a rocker on a Do Make record, you really are looking in the wrong place.

Post-rock as a genre ain't over yet, the musical collectives are still strong-"You, You're a History In Rust" proves it.
