IUPUI's women's basketball team (8-12, 4-4 Summit) tried to give Jinx a great birthday present by scoring a win at the Jungle Jan. 26, but it was not to be. The team lost to IPFW (8-11, 5-3 Summit) 68-50 at the Jungle Saturday night.

Several Indianapolis mascots attended the game to celebrate Jinx's 10th birthday. The mascots entertained guests with dancing, a game of basketball musical chairs, birthday cake and a Jinx-versus-Jawz basketball game.

IUPUI struggled throughout the first half, only making 8 of 33 shots. The team's 3-pointers and free throws were just as bad, 0-9 and 2-6 respectively.

After halftime the team looked like it was about rebound when Julia Whitted scored four points within the first four minutes of the second half. However, IPFW had some strong shooters and never let IUPUI retake the lead.

Whitted had her sixth double-double of season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Farren Stackhouse had eight points and Jernisha Cann had seven points and 10 rebounds.

IPFW's Courtney Reed had a slow start but eventually led her team with 18 points and seven rebounds, helping them secure the win during the second half where she scored 15 of those 18 points.

The team is still clutching to its spot in the top eight in the Summit League standings, however. They are currently in sixth with five conference games left.
