IUPUI continued its winning ways Thursday night, defeating the North Dakota State Bison 60-46 in the Jungle.

The Jaguars (12-3) played stingy defense to make up for a sub-par shooting performance, forcing the Bison (8-8) to 24 turnovers. The game marked the Jags' lowest scoring output of the season.

"I thought we were good defensively," Coach Ron Hunter said. "We just couldn't get our runs going. We're a good three-point shooting team and we didn't make many shots today."

Jaguar guard George Hill led in scoring with 22 points. Austin Montgomery and Gary Patterson each added 11. IUPUI shot 41 percent from the field for the game.

The Jaguars survived a back-and-forth first half, taking a 28-24 lead at halftime. Hill and Patterson combined for 19 of the team's 28 first half points. Though the Jags led most of the half, Hunter seemed disappointed in his team's play and let his players know.

"He [Hunter] got on us because we try to be the best defensive team in the league and he told us we were not playing to the best of our ability," Hill said. "We took that upon ourselves and locked down and came out great today on the defensive end."

The Jaguars came out in the second half, forcing a turnover and hitting a jump shot on their first possession. Hill scored six consecutive points midway through the second half, sparking a 15-4 run. Jag forwards Jon Avery and Billy Pettiford gave the home crowd reason to cheer as they both rocked the rim with emphatic slam-dunks late in the game.

"If I have a choice of being a good first half team or a good second half team, I always take the second half," Hunter said. "We just gotta get a little more separation in the first half and we can really put teams away in the second half."

The Bison came in averaging 81.2 points per game and featuring leading scorer Ben Woodside, who currently ranks No. 18 in scoring in Division I with 21.4 points per game. Woodside was held to 16 points in 39 minutes.

"If you hold a team to 46 points that is averaging close to 78, you know you have to be doing something good," Hunter said. "We just have to continue to do what we do."
