The season kicks off later this week away from Jaguar territory. Coach Ron Hunter and his No.1 ranked Summit League team take on No. 3 ranked Big East team Marquette University on Nov. 10.
The IUPUI women's team travels to Michigan Nov. 9 to compete in the Women's National Invitational tournament (WNIT) and take on Michigan State.
Both teams have their first home games the following week with the men taking on IU South Bend Nov. 12 and the women's team taking on Morehead State on Nov. 14.
George Hill is back playing for the Jaguars after his season-ending injury last year. He says he is excited and glad to back in the game.
"It was very tough to watch [from the bench] but it's a learning process and I took one game at a time," Hill says. "I think it's going to pay off. I got more experience and I'm more vocal now."
This season has already seen its share of IUPUI firsts. The women's team will compete in its first trip to the Women's NIT this weekend. For the preseason WNIT, one team from each conference is invited based on predicted team strength for the upcoming season and team history.
The men's team was voted the top-ranked Summit League team by all the coaches in the Summit League. Junior George Hill became the first IUPUI player to be selected as preseason player of the year and is on the preseason Summit League first team.
Senior guard Austin Montgomery was also selected for the preseason Summit League First Team and senior guard Gary Patterson was selected for the Summit League second team.
All IUPUI students receive free entry into all basketball games. Tickets must be picked up in advance by calling 278-JAGS. You can find out more information about tickets at www.iupuijags.com/Tickets.
