When Maurice goes to a Fair in a town nearby, he becomes lost in the woods and ends up in what he believes to be an abandoned castle. Here, he is confronted by the Beast (once a handsome prince) who is under a spell forever unless he can love someone and be loved in return by his 21st birthday. Maurice becomes a prisoner of the castle, until Belle finds him and decides to strike a deal with the Beast, and take the place of her father. After promising to stay forever, the Beast releases Maurice before Belle even gets a chance to say goodbye.
During her stay at the castle, Belle is welcomed into an a world of enchantment where she meets a variety of characters including a candelabra named Lumiere, a clock named Cogsworth, a tea pot named Mrs. Potts, and the adorable tea cup Chip.
When Maurice gets lost in the woods while looking for Belle, the Beast finally finds his heart, and releases her. Through a series of obstacles, Belle manages to save the Beast, and show everyone that people can change and that friendship overcomes all obstacles.
Although this is a movie from the Disney Classic Collection, and not necessarily a recent release, it is still one the most wonderful fairy tales of all time. The vivid characters and catchy songs will captivate children, while parents can enjoy the simple (but touchingly complex) love story of Beauty and the Beast.
While this movie is great for young and old alike, there are a few scenes that may scare very young children. Ultimately, this movie is full of laughs and even some lessons that may be worth discussing with your child.
