Latinos at IUPUI and in Indy

The Office of Registrar said 731 IUPUI students self-identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino this year. The Office of Registrar said the enrollment application gives the student the option to voluntarily disclose their ethnicity and this option is only for U.S. citizens and legal residents.

Sara Kurtz Allaei, assistant dean for international programs and director for international services, said of the 1,128 international students studying here, 69 are from Spanish-speaking countries. Almost half of the international Latino students are from Mexico and the second largest group of international Latino students is from Venezuela.

IUPUI's Office of Information Management and Institutional Research (IMIR) provided faculty and staff information.

Of all full-time academic appointments, 58? are Hispanic or Latino. Among the full-time staff, 73 are Hispanic or Latino.

Approximately 30,636 Latinos or Hispanics were reported living in Indianapolis and more than 200,000 Latinos or Hispanics were reported living in Indiana in the 2000 census
